The New Year, which opens the Ten Days of Awe in the autumn with the sound of the shofar; Karaites keep the day as Yom Teruah.
In 2028 it begins on Wednesday 20 September in Karaite practice, and on Thursday 21 September in Masorti and Reform practice.
Like every day of the Jewish year, it begins at sunset the evening before. Karaite dates are projected, and may move a day once the new moon is sighted.
