Terms of Use
The agreement between you and the maker of ActivePray, for the app and for this website.
Last updated: 16 October 2026
These terms cover the ActivePray app for iPhone, the Active+ subscription, and this website, activepray.com, with its calendar feeds and its prayer times widget. They are an agreement between you and Kastle Five, a business in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (“we”, “us”); our details are in the legal notice. By using the app or the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app or the site.
How we handle your data is set out separately, in the privacy policy.
The app and its licence
The app is licensed to you, not sold. Your licence to use it is Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA), which you accepted when you downloaded it from the App Store. These terms add to that licence and do not replace it; where the two differ about the licence itself, the EULA applies.
We, not Apple, are responsible for the app, its content and its support. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it.
Your account
You sign in to the app with Sign in with Apple, and keeping your Apple Account secure is up to you. You must be old enough to accept these terms where you live, or use the app with the permission of a parent or guardian.
You can stop using the app at any time, and Delete Account in Settings erases what the app stored, as the privacy policy describes.
Usernames
Your username is unique across everyone who uses ActivePray, and the app on other people’s devices can read it. Do not choose a username that:
- pretends to be another person, organisation or religious body;
- is offensive, hateful, sexual or threatening, or mocks a faith or its followers;
- contains someone else’s personal details, or a name or mark you have no right to use;
- breaks the law.
We may remove or release a username that breaks these rules, or that is the subject of a valid complaint. When we do, we will tell you why if we can reach you, and you can ask us to look at the decision again. To report a username, email kastlefive@icloud.com with the username and the reason.
Prayer times, calendars and texts
ActivePray helps you keep your own practice. It is not a religious authority, and nothing in it is a religious ruling.
Prayer times, the start and end of fasts, Shabbat times, the direction of prayer and the dates of holy days are calculated from your location, the position of the sun and the moon, and the conventions of your branch. They are estimates. They can differ from the times kept by your mosque, synagogue or church, and from what is observed where you are. Dates that depend on the sighting of the new moon can change once a sighting is confirmed. Where accuracy matters, and where your own religious authority differs, follow your own religious authority.
Scripture, prayers and translations come from the sources named where they appear, and are used under those sources’ licences. We take care with them, but they may contain errors. If you find one, please tell us.
Fasting, health and travel
Nothing in the app or on this site is medical advice. Before you fast, talk to a doctor if you have a health condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, take regular medication, or are unsure whether fasting is safe for you. Each faith has its own provisions for those who are not able to fast.
The pilgrimage planner is a checklist, not travel, visa or legal advice. Check travel and entry requirements with official sources before you go.
Reminders and the morning prayer alarm depend on your iPhone’s settings, its notifications and its battery. Do not rely on them alone for anything where a missed alert could cause harm.
Active+
Active+ is an optional, auto-renewing monthly subscription, sold by Apple through the App Store. The free features of the app do not need it.
- The price is shown in the App Store before you buy, in your local currency, and payment is charged to your Apple Account.
- The subscription renews automatically each month unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel it in the iOS Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Active+ stays on until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Purchases, refunds and any right of withdrawal are handled by Apple under Apple’s Media Services Terms. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What Active+ includes may change as the app changes. If we take a benefit away, we will say so in the app’s release notes, and you can cancel at any time.
This website, the calendar feeds and the widget
You may read, link to and share the pages of this site. You may not copy the site, or large parts of it, to publish as your own.
Calendar feeds. You may subscribe to the holy-day calendars at activepray.com/calendars/ in any calendar app, free of charge. We may change their contents, their addresses or stop them.
The prayer times widget. Anyone may place the snippet from Times for your website on their own website, free of charge, on these conditions:
- keep the snippet as the page gives it, including the link to ActivePray;
- do not change the times it shows, or present them as calculated by anyone else;
- do not use it on a site that breaks the law, or that attacks or mocks any faith.
The times it shows are the same estimates as the app’s, and we may change the widget or stop it. If you use it, you are responsible for your own website.
Do not misuse the site or the app: do not try to break their security, overload them with automated requests, or use them for anything unlawful.
What belongs to whom
The app and this site, their design, words, pictures and code, belong to Kastle Five or are used under licence. Texts and materials from other sources belong to those sources and are credited where they appear.
What you write in the app, your prayer journal included, stays yours. We need no rights to it, and your journal is end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read it.
Apple, iPhone, App Store, iCloud and Sign in with Apple are trademarks of Apple Inc. Other names belong to their owners. ActivePray is not affiliated with or endorsed by any religious organisation.
Changes and availability
We work to keep the app, the site, the feeds and the widget available and correct, but we cannot promise that they will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, and the app needs a supported version of iOS.
Our responsibility to you
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country with consumer protection laws, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect, including your rights if the app or a subscription is faulty. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where the law does not allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence.
Within those limits:
- the app, the site, the feeds and the widget are provided as they are, without promises beyond those the law requires;
- we are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for loss caused by Apple’s services, your device or your connection;
- we are not responsible for a prayer, fast, holy day or observance kept at a time or on a date that differs from your own religious authority’s;
- our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Active+ in the twelve months before the event that caused the claim.
Ending this agreement
You can end it at any time by deleting your account and the app. We may suspend or end your use of the app or the site if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Where we can, we will tell you first and give our reasons.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we will update the date above and post the new version here. If a change matters to you, we will announce it on this site, and in the app where we reasonably can, before it takes effect. If you do not accept a change, you can stop using the app and the site and delete your account.
The law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country; we will bring a claim against you only there. Otherwise, the courts of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, have jurisdiction.
If something goes wrong, please write to us first, and we will try to put it right. We are not obliged to take part in, and do not commit to, proceedings before an alternative dispute resolution body.
General
If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. We may transfer this agreement to someone who takes over ActivePray, on the condition that your rights under it are not reduced. These terms, Apple’s standard EULA and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about ActivePray.
