The New Year, which opens the Ten Days of Awe in the autumn with the sound of the shofar; Karaites keep the day as Yom Teruah.
In 2027 it begins on Thursday 2 September in Karaite practice, and on Saturday 2 October in Masorti and Reform practice.
Like every day of the Jewish year, it begins at sunset the evening before. Karaite dates are projected, and may move a day once the new moon is sighted.
