How it opens

The first verses of the portion. Hebrew: the Miqra according to the Masorah, via Sefaria (CC BY-SA). English: JPS 1917.

  1. Leviticus 6:1

And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:

  2. Leviticus 6:2

Command Aaron and his sons, saying: This is the law of the burnt-offering: it is that which goeth up on its firewood upon the altar all night unto the morning; and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning thereby.

The weeks around it

The portions read the Shabbat before and the Shabbat after, in the Diaspora. Masorti and Reform read the whole portion each week, or a third of it over three years on the triennial cycle; the portion is the same.

In ActivePray, the week’s portion stands on the Prayer tab with its haftarah, in Hebrew beside the English, and the whole Tanakh to read on.
