Genesis 23:1 – 25:18, with the haftarah I Kings 1:1–31.

In 2026: Shabbat 7 November 2026.

How it opens

The first verses of the portion. Hebrew: the Miqra according to the Masorah, via Sefaria (CC BY-SA). English: JPS 1917.

  1. Genesis 23:1

And the life of Sarah was a hundred and seven and twenty years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.

  2. Genesis 23:2

And Sarah died in Kiriatharba—the same is Hebron—in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

The weeks around it
